Registration over-payments with respect to practice ice time |
|
|
Dear
B&DMHA Members,
As the 2007-2008 season is
winding down the Association
wishes to clear its books around
the issue of Registration
over-payments with respect to
practice ice time. As you
know, the Association was
supportive of the Rocky Lake
Development Association
/Can*Sport project to build a
temporary ice surface on the
Bedford Commons. We had
made commitments to procure ice
from that facility and
structured our fee schedule for
this year to include extra
practice ice at that facility
for most of our players in the
2007-2008 season.
Unfortunately, the temporary ice
surface has not been completed
in time for the B&DMHA to
effectively use and therefore we
must reconcile the registration
payments with the practice ice
used for each team.
Included in the registration
payment for 2007 - 2008 was an
extra hour of practice ice each
week for competitive teams -
both male and female (totaling
22 hours) and an extra hour
every 2nd week (totaling
11 hours) for
recreational teams. All
Members with the exception of
Novice IP and Midget Recreation,
were charged $80 for a practice
hour every second week;
competitive players were not
charged at registration the
additional $80 for the hour of
practice ice promised which was
to give them an hour every week.
At this point in the season,
through the hard work of the Ice
Coordinator, the competitive
male and female teams have
received their full complement
of practice ice time (an average
of 1 hour per week) and most of
the recreational teams have
enjoyed some practice ice time
every second week. We are
now left with a wide range of
bills owing and amounts due to
members on various teams. In
general there are no refunds due
to the competitive male and
female teams – only those
members on recreational teams.
For pragmatic purposes we will
issue refunds to the
Recreational teams based upon
their individual ice usage
through their team officials who
will then disperse funds to the
members and obtain signed
receipts. The Recreation
team member’s refund will be
calculated as the pro-rata share
of $80 paid multiplied by the
number of ice hours not
received, for example if your
team received 4 hours of extra
ice your refund will be $50.90
(7 hours/11hours total *$80 =
$50.90). These team
cheques will be issued to the
Recreation teams after March
break.
The Competitive teams will
receive a copy of their team
roster via email after March
Break indicating the amount each
player has player has paid and
the balance owing.
Sincerely,
John K. Sullivan, CA
Treasurer, BDMHA

PETITION FOR NEW RINK IN BEDFORD |
|
|
To all members of BDMHA;
Please see the petition regarding a new arena / arena complex in Bedford. Please
do not confuse this with the current potential development at Rocky Lake
Commons.
As a member of BDMHA you are aware of the need for additional ice for all
members of our association. We currently have one of the largest registrations
for minor hockey in all of Metro yet only one ice pad to call home.
This petition has the opportunity to change this!!!
Please take 30 seconds to read and complete the attached petition. We have been
waiting for years and now must speak up for what is deserved in our community.
Please pass this petition on to anyone you know who currently uses the LeBrun
Centre.
Power is in numbers and every signature counts!!!!!
To All Bedford and Area Residents:
Last week HRM invited qualified individuals or firms to express interest in
entering into a partnership to design, develop and operate a multiplex arena in
HRM.
There is an overwhelming need for a multi-rink / recreational complex in
Bedford.
Last season - 93 hours of ice time per week was used at the 35 year-old LeBrun
Centre and 11 other arenas in HRM in order to meet the needs of the 901
registered Bedford Minor Hockey players* alone.
Other associations, with similar hockey registration numbers throughout HRM have
the following arenas** available to them within their districts for hockey,
skating & leisure clubs: Halifax – 8 rinks; Dartmouth – 5 rinks; Cole Harbour –
2 rinks; Sackville – 2 rinks; St. Margaret’s Bay – 2 rinks. Bedford has only 1
rink.
If you believe that HRM should select Bedford for the new complex, please show
your support by filling in the fields on the following link

SPECIAL BENEFIT SILENT AUCTION for BUZZ GOODWIN |
|
|
Some of you may or may not
know Buzz Goodwin who worked in the Bedford Arena for 19 years.
Three years ago, cancer was discovered in his colon that has spread
to his liver. He had the initial surgery 3 years ago and has never
been able to return to work. Recently, local doctors told him there
was nothing more they could do to treat him. He didn't like that
answer so he asked more questions. He is now receiving the drug
avastin which is not covered by MSI and is also travelling to
Montreal for more extensive treatment. Obviously, the costs incurred
for the avastin and treatment in Montreal is taking a toll on their
finances.
So, the staff at the Lebrun
Centre are hosting a Silent Auction Benefit to support Buzz and
Jennifer (who works the Front Desk at Lebrun in the
evenings). It will be held at
the Bedford Dooley's on December 8 at
1:30pm. We will have other
activities during the afternoon such as a Wheel of prizes, mini
tournaments and 50/50 draws. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at
the arena office or the Lebrun Centre front desk (or any Lebrun
staff). The ticket entitles you to free pool at Doolys for the
afternoon.
I have a few posters in the
arena but word of mouth is the best, if you could all pass this
information along to members of Bedford Minor Hockey, I would really
appreciate the help.
